About Us

Lake Kennels was established in 1990 in Lake County, Ohio, east of Cleveland. Our foundation Great Dane bitch, Ch Jerdan's Sweet Sensation, "Shannon" came to us as a rescue dog. Shannon completed her AKC championship over a five month period from August 1990 to January 1991 and was campaigned for the remainder of 1991, becoming our first "Top Twenty" Great Danes. Her son, BISS Ch Lake Jerdan's First Edition continued the "Top Twenty" tradition in 1994 through 1996. Lake Kennels has been fortunate to have had a Great Dane in the Great Dane Club of America, Top Twenty for four years from 1991-1997. An extensive description of Shannon and Buddha can be found in the "Special Dogs" section of this website.

Please enjoy reviewing their photos and pedigrees.

Other Breeds

Whippets became part of our life in November of 1995 when "Gracie" from Mr. T. David Hintson, Raintree Kennels, Vicksburg, MS. returned with us after a very successful show weekend in Birmingham Alabama. Gracie was bred to C.H. Raintree's Carrington from which
she produced eleven healthy puppies; one of which, Lake's Ain't Misbehaving,
"Scarlett" became both an AKC champion and an international champion.

Our whippet family expanded by two in 1996 when we obtained Raintree's Kiss and Tell, "Lola" and Raintree's Latin Lover, "Ricky". Ricky completed his AKC championship in early 1998. As an eleven month old puppy, Ricky took two "back to back" majors during the Southern Regional weekend in Jackson, Mississippi (December 1997), and finished in January 1998 with three majors. Ricky has proven to be an exceptional Sire, with his structure, soundness and wonderful temperament being imprinted on his get.

Since arriving in California, our cannine family has become more diverse with the addition of a Boxer, Jennie, and a Rottweiller, Lucy.
